The Social Security Administration’s rules and regulations are written so that different guidelines apply to a Social Security Disability/SSI claim when you are under 50 years of age versus over 50 years of age. In fact, there are essentially three sets of guidelines that apply in a Social Security Disability/SSI claim. One set of guidelines apply when you are under 50 years of age, which are more difficult to satisfy. Another set of guidelines apply when you are ages 50 to 54. And, finally, a third set of guidelines apply when you are 55 years of age and over. This is not age discrimination, but rather the way the law is written.
